This is the West Philippine Sea, a major fishing ground with a look all its own. The water runs a deep, electric blue, because the sea floor drops off fast just past the reef. The color makes a great backdrop for the boats out on the horizon. Closer to the shore, the shallow coral turns the water turquoise and green, with a lively underwater ecosystem. On clear days, the sea meets the sky in one sharp line. When the monsoon sweeps through, the clouds gather low and the whole sky comes down to meet the water.
