Limestone rock formations exposed at low tide along Patar Beach, with dramatic shapes left behind by the retreating sea.

Patar & Bolinao

Rock Formations

Patar has two faces. In the dry season, March through August, the beach is golden sand and calm turquoise water. In the wet season, September through February, tides drop further and reveal the limestone rock formations that give the area its name.

They are sculpted, walkable, full of small tidal pools, and they change shape over the years as the sea works on them. A different beach to the one you remember from the summer, and worth a visit on its own terms.
