The Zambales range runs along the western edge of central Luzon, and you see it most of the way along the drive up from Manila. On clear mornings the ridges come up sharp; on humid afternoons they go soft and blue.
The road threads the coast with the mountains on one side and the sea on the other. They are part of the reason the trip up here feels like a journey and not just an errand, and a reminder, on the way back, of how far you went to get here.
