Locking Up Your Cabin
Updated · June 10, 2026
Your cabin has one door that locks with a key, and a few that lock from the inside. Once you know which is which, leaving is simple and your cabin stays secure while you are out.
The Main Door Is the Only Door With a Key
The main door is the only lock that takes a key, so it is always the last door you close on your way out. The sliding doors and the wet entrance lock from the inside only. The order matters: secure everything from within first, then leave through the main door and lock it behind you.
Heading Out, in Order
- Lock the sliding doors from the inside. Pull the panels together until they meet, then push the lock handle into the horizontal position.
- Lock the wet entrance from the inside.
- Leave through the main door and lock it with your key. Turn the handle up until the deadbolt is firmly set, turn the key until it locks, and check that the handle no longer moves.
The Windows
To open a window, press the button and gently twist the handle upward, then push. To close it, pull the window in and twist the handle down until you hear it lock. Keep the windows closed when you are out, so insects and weather stay outside.
Cabins With More Than One Room
In the larger Horizon cabins, the main door is still the only door with a key. Lock the other doors, including any interior sliding doors, from the inside before you leave through the main door.
The Caretakers Can Help
If a lock ever sticks, or you are not sure a door is secure, the caretakers live on the property and are glad to help. You will find their contact on the card by the phone in your cabin.
